How can healthy diets cause depression?

by admin on December 24, 2009

I know a woman who hasn’t been depressed for 4 years. After a month into the First Place for Women(Christian) diet she’s become really depressed. Another woman is experiencing this too.

Why and how a diet could make you depressed?

I am not familiar with this diet but any diet that "forbids" certain foods can cause depression or even an obsession with the forbidden foods. Just make sure your firend is on a nutritionally balanced program before looking into other possible causes for her depression.

If you eat food you dont enjoy long enough you start to miss those foods you do enjoy. Also, a lot of "health" foods are not so healthy after all. For all I know she could be eating junk food disguised as health food.

Sometimes a cheat meal is good because it keeps a person sane and on the wagon.

Im not sure about the diet these women are on, but a lack of nutrients can cause imbalances in our bodies, ultimately causing depression. We need a sufficient amount of nutrients and vitamins that we receive through consumption to sustain a healthy mood. This is why diets are not healthy. They deprive us of what our body needs to function properly.
