What is one healthy food that is cheap and would last me through the week? If I’m working with a tight budget, what kind of food is cheap and would last me through the week? More specifically, I would like heart healthy food and things that cost little but you get a lot of.
Oh yeah, it has to taste decent.
Pretend I got $25 a week for food.

like other posters said, rice and oatmeal. Whole grain is healthiest. Get creative with beans and barley too. You can buy the large cheap bag of chicken for like .70 cents a pound. Also you can save money by making your own recipes in large amounts and freeze them in meal sized bowls and save them for later on in the week or month. Buy some carrots and cabbage and add them to your recipes they are generally cheaper veggies.

soup. read the label to make sure it doesn’t have a lot of sodium or fat. I like Progresso soups.

I would go with vegetables and lean chicken meat. It depends on how much of a tight budget you’re in.

Tuna (I like it, add mayo and other spices)
Brown rice/ Rice in general
Rice cakes
Wheat Bread (maybe + tuna?)
Lettuce/Salad
Veggies, frozen or fresh
Peanut butter
Apples and Fruite usually aren’t to bad price wise
Eggs, very cheap and very good for you (check out egg in a hole)

heh…

fresh fruits and veggies..

i live off of many fresh fruits and veggies for $20 a week and that’s stuffing myself with them.

that includes soymilk.

(i also juice all my fruits and veggies also..)

you’ll feel better, lose weight, be more energetic and look probably a year younger by the end of the month.

If you are looking for some heart healthy food I would say tomatoes. In every article on heart healthy food, tomatoes are right up there. I realize they aren’t that cheap and you can’t live off of them alone…but you asked…
